Car Accidents--What To Do When Tragedy Strikes

Imagine being involved in a hit-and-run accident caused by a drunk driver.  If that is not bad enough, imagine being the mother who was left in desperation while trying to save her injured son, daughter, and husband from the burning vehicle at the scene of the accident.

This was the tragic reality of one wife and mother, age 35, who was returning home from a party with her family—a husband of 37, a daughter of 4 years old, and a son of 8 years old.  The family was currently living in Queens and originally from Haiti.  Their automobile was hit while driving on the Southern State in Bay Shore, Long Island, during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The woman was sitting on the front passenger side when the accident transpired.  She frantically tried to get her relatives out of the car, but tragically, she was unable to help her husband or children escape from the burning vehicle.  The culpable driver who was operating a 2008 BMW was 24 years old and charged with “DWI and leaving the scene of an accident.”

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

If you or a loved one have been in a car accident that resulted in property damage, personal injury, death or other loss, you should contact an attorney immediately.  An attorney can greatly increase your chances getting compensated for your property and physical injury.

Depending on the amount of property damage and personal injury, the attorney may be able to work out a settlement agreement in your favor, and avoid trial.  You may also be eligible for compensation based on your pain and suffering under certain circumstances.

In many instances insurance companies will try to limit the benefits paid to injured parties, so you should have an experienced auto accident attorney by your side.  Even your own insurance company may not be looking out for your best interests. You should have an experienced automobile accident attorney at your side when dealing with insurance companies.

IS HIRING AN ATTORNEY EXPENSIVE?

Whether or not you are experiencing financial difficulty in this bad economy, you do not have to worry about paying attorneys fees if your action is not successful.  I will pursue your action on a contingency fee basis, which means that you would not have to shell out a large sum for attorney's fees up front.  Likewise, you will not be obligated to pay any fee to me until and if you win the case.

An attorney can also keep you up-to-date regarding mandatory court appearances and may fight insurance disputes on your behalf.   Let your attorney handle the legal difficulties, so you can handle recuperating from the accident.
