Understanding Traumatic Brain Injuries


A traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an injury to the brain that occurs from a blow to the head or due to an object penetrating the brain. These injuries are among the most complex types of injuries. Depending on the part of the brain that is injured, the type of damage done, and the severity of the injury, the effects may vary widely. They may include lifelong problems with mood, memory, concentration, motor function, or even basic life functions like blinking and breathing. In the most severe cases, TBIs result in death.
